One of the great advantages of working in coffee is the exposure you get to the diversity of the product. In any week, we might try coffees from a dozen different countries, and we always serve and sell beans from all the major growing regions. This week, we are being blown away by two small-lot coffees from opposite corners of the world: A Papua New Guinea Peaberry from Sigri Estates, and a treasured Panamanian gesha from the famous Hacienda la Esmeralda.
Yes, well, it is true that without green coffee – and the growers, miller, exporters, shippers, importers, agronomists, warehouse workers, and truck drivers who make that coffee happen -- there would be no café. But if we want to create a sustainable economy for farmers of specialty coffee, then we must also create efficient outlets at which to sell their product and tell their story.
Distracted driving effects us all. That's why for the month of April, Artis is partnering with People Against Distracted Driving and The Conor Lynch Foundation to help bring awareness and end distracted driving. This month, when checking out on artiscoffee.com mention code SUPPORT in the Notes or Discount section in the shopping cart and we will donate $1 from each purchase to both PADD and CLF to help keep our roads safe.
This week we're catching up with Jenn Chen, Digital Marketing Manager for Acaia Inc., and the face of the company on their social media accounts. She fills us in on their new Acaia Black Pearl and the cup of coffee that changed her life.
Last Friday we kicked off our latest art installation, Paved Paradise. Curated by International Street Photographer Eric Kim, and Artis' own Walter Margerison, Paved Paradise features 27 photographs from 27 photographers based in the Bay Area. Walter and Eric wanted to put a show together to build a sense of community among street photographers in the East Bay since most gallery events are in SF.
90 photographers and photography fans came out for the opening last Friday to view the show, and talk photography. Visit us in Berkeley to see the gallery and be sure to sign up and your photo might be featured in the next event!
